In Mexico City we would recommend you to stay in the neighborhoods Polanco, Condesa or Roma. These are small and cozy neighborhoods where you can walk to local restaurants, bars, museums and landmarks.

If you stay in the downtown area (including Reforma, Polanco, Roma and Condesa) you can walk around (long walks). If you are tired or want to move to another area the best (and cheapest!) way to do it is with Uber.
